The past week, following playing through Uncharted 3, I've been playing through Microsoft's Alan Wake.
The game follows a writer as he battles dark forces in an out of the way American community. The story is really well told throughout and kept me coming back everyday eager to find out what was going to happen next. The gameplay consists mainly of 3rd person shooting with added depth thanks to the requirement of damaging your enemies first with light before they can take damage from a weapon. This makes for some intense battles using torches, flares, flashbangs etc to great effect. A particular highlight was an amazing battle on an old school rock and roll stage complete with masses of pyrotechnics and swarms of enemies approaching. Of particular mention in this game is the lighting effects which are absolutely stunning.
The game ended reasonably well but I must admit I am somewhat confused by it. It has succeeded however in making me keen to play it's soon to be released sequel.
